MLF BASS PRO TOUR, VICIOUS FISHING PRO FLETCHER SHRYOCK SPILLS DETAILS ON BRAIDED LINE
—
As the BPT readies to kick off on Florida’s Harris Chain of Lakes, you can be certain anglers will be spooling up with plenty of braided line. Heavy vegetation, dense cover and close-combat situations will play an enormous role in this heavyweight fight and Vicious Fishing pro Fletcher Shryock is ready for battle.
With Vicious Fishing offering both 8- and 4-carrier braids, the Tennessee angler has a specific plan and application for each type of line.
“Vicious No-Fade Braid has a very specific place in my arsenal,” Shryock said. “Anytime I’m punching thick vegetation, this line is the stuff I use and trust exclusively. Not only does it not fade like many other braids but it’s also an 8-carrier braid which makes it very quiet and stealthy when you’re fishing in close quarters.”
Because of its design, No Fade Braid is made to be incredibly quiet while sliding in and out of aquatic vegetation. Too much noise can alert a fish to your presence, which makes this 8-carrier braid an excellent choice for heavy-duty punching, pitching and fishing.
For longer-distance situations, Shryock leans heavily on the Original Vicious Braided Line. It’s a 4-carrier braid which means it produces less friction while moving through a rod’s line guides. This results in unbelievable casting distance which allows an angler to maximize their lures’ time in the strike zone, which is perfect for horizontal, moving-bait presentations.
“If I’m launching a swim jig or frog across grass, I’m always using this line,” Shryock said. “Even if a cold front comes around and the bass are particularly finicky, I can downsize to a 3/16-ounce Texas rig and this line design allows me to flip and pitch that lightweight rig a lot easier.”
If you’re short-stringing them in the jungle or tossing a swim jig or frog across expansive grass mats, just make sure you have these lines ready to roll. Shryock relies on this system for a living and it’ll work for you, too.
